The children have moved out or live out of state. You and your spouse are spending your first Christmas or winter holiday on your own. What can you do to get back to being a couple — and deal with the empty nest — around the holidays? Why not spend Christmas in the hot tub? What?! Why not?
It doesn’t matter which area of the country you live in — if you have a hot tub or spa you can use it year round. Sure, if your hot tub is placed in a secluded corner of the backyard and it’s knee deep snow you will have to plan in advance to shovel a path to the hot tub. That’s no big deal, right? Spend some time mapping out what you want to do on your adult Christmas day/afternoon/evening.
Christmas In The Hot Tub
- If you haven’t used the hot tub since swim season passed, you will need to assure the hot tub water is chemically treated to assure you’re not sinking into bacteria-filled water. If you work with a pool service contractor, call him and give him plenty of notice that you would like to use the hot tub and that you’d like it serviced.
- After the water is clean and bacteria-free, make sure you have a shovel handy in case you have to shovel a path.
- Don’t forget to plan for time spent in, and out of, the hot tub. You can certainly sink into the heated, jetted depths and sip a glass of wine and relax for a few minutes. But you can amp up that fun by having access to heated towels and even spending time in the outdoor living space. Start a fire. Wrap up in oversized, heated robes and kick back and relax with some appetizers and a bit more wine — or even hot cocoa with a nip of Bailey’s Irish Cream and a dollop of whipped cream. Indulge with a shrimp cocktail, cheese, crackers and a selection of your favorite fruits and deli meats.
You can spend the entire day going from the hot tub to the heated outdoor living space. Toss the robes into the dryer or into a hot tub towel heater and you will assure you’re warm each and every time you get out of the hot tub.
Don a Santa hat, hand out some gifts and enjoy an adult Christmas holiday celebration in the hot tub!
